Your News... In Real-Time!

At Bruce Middle School we've decided to go paperless with our newsletter.

There are two advantages to this:

- The saving of paper is a savings in costs and more importantly another step in our ongoing commitment to sustainability.

- By offering news in this format, we can now provide our community with real-time news as it happens, instead of waiting until the end of the month to send out information.

Ski Trip

Ski/Snowboard Trip

A ski/snowboard trip is planned for Friday, March 11, 2016. We will start arriving at school at 7:00 am and will leave by 7:30, returning around 5:30 the same day. We will be travelling by bus and going to Holiday Mountain at LaRiviere.
The trip is planned for students who wish to learn to ski and for students who are already seasoned skiers.
The cost of bus transportation, lessons, and lift tickets is $60.00. We will only be taking full bus loads and it is on a first come, first served basis. $30.00 of the deposit is used to advance book the bus so it is non-refundable. Students are encouraged to bring their own lunch and water, but may also purchase food and drink at the ski lodge.
For those wishing to rent, arrangements have been made with Holiday Mountain for the school to rent at the hill. CSA approved Ski/Snowboard helmets must be worn by every student skier/snowboarder in Manitoba.

Prices, tax included, for those who wish to rent at the school rate from Holiday Mtn.
Skis or Snowboard                                         $15.00
Helmet                                                            $  5.00

Those interested in going will need to hand in their form to Mr. Harland during B.L.A.S.T. on a first come, first served basis.  Cheques should be made payable to Bruce Middle School. $60.00 if the student has equipment, $80.00 if the student is renting skis/snowboard and helmet from the ski hill. If weather cancels the trip, it will be a regular school day and we will attempt to reschedule. Full refunds will be available if the original date is cancelled.

Junior Achievement

During Grade 8 enrichment time on Nov. 18 and Dec. 2, Bruce was thrilled to have Junior Achievement Manitoba come out to present students with a two part workshop titled 'Dollars with Sense'. This interactive program was designed to encourage students to develop the financial literacy necessary to make informed decisions about their financial futures. Students participated in a bartering type activity, BINGO, and knowledge quizzes to name a few. It was a great experience for all participants.
Grade 8 students can look forward to another workshop from Junior Achievement Manitoba in the spring.

Green Team

Green Team

The Green Team is proud to announce that through the endangered species cookie bake sale held mid November, we raised enough money to help support the Red Panda through World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The Green team will be purchasing an adoption kit in support of this animal. Here are some fun facts about Red Pandas from China/Himalayas:

Red Pandas are endangered because their natural habitats are being destroyed by loggers.

Red Pandas have a sweet tooth and love fake sugar.

Red Pandas are great at escaping zoos and other places.

Thank you for your support and stay tuned for more exciting events brought to you by your Bruce Green Team.

You can find out more about the adoption kit here:

Pancakes & Portfolios

November 25th 2015

Session 1:  4:30 – 6:00 p.m.

Session 2:  6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

On November 25th 2015, Bruce Middle School will be hosting a Pancakes & Portfolios Evening! Your child will lead you through a portfolio collection of their learning. They will present artifacts that represent their learning and they will also perform some live tasks, including making pancakes for you to enjoy! This will be done in the place of traditional parent-teacher interviews to place a greater emphasis on student learning. Teachers will also be available in the gym during this time to speak with you about your child's learning.

We hope that you will find this casual format both inviting and informative, as your child leads you through examples of their learning. Should there be a reason that you need a private face-to-face conversation with any teacher or administrator, we will have meeting rooms available upon request.

Please indicate which session you will be attending.  Registration is available on the links indicated below.
